The trunk of the majegau tree is believed to symbolize the batara sadasiwa (messenger of the gods) and is often used in rites of passage (manusa yadnya). It becomes a sacred offering in these sacred ceremonies intended to protect life and purify the inner and outer man.

Due to theft and illegal logging, majegau trees in Bali are now known to be very rare, and the larger trees are protected by each village as a protected forest.
